Get Involved - One Hope

NCBAM offers a workshop that helps churches plan, implement, and maintain their own One Hope outreaches to those suffering in their communities. This workshop includes:

  • An overview of social isolation and loneliness
  • Methods for identifying those at risk
  • Training for “communicators” who answer the Hope Line
  • Training for “encouragers” who connect Hope Line callers to community
  • Tips, tools, and resources for incorporating prayer, evangelism, and discipleship
  • Evidence-based health coach techniques that are client focused and results driven
  • Process for referring other needs to NCBAM
  • Strategies for developing community based solutions.

To schedule a One Hope workshop for your church call:

Volunteer Communicators

Volunteer Communicators receive Hope Line calls during four-hour shifts that best suit their schedule. Communicators may also volunteer to provide out-bound calls through the Hope Line’s Friendly Call Service.

Volunteer Encouragers

Volunteer Encouragers work directly with isolated and lonely individuals (65+) in their communities. Encouragers develop a relationship with an individual(s) in their community and assist them in making community connections. Encouragers make friendly phone calls and home visits, help facilitate transportation, and offer local resources to further community connections.

Hope Line Training for Churches or Individuals

NCBAM provides individual or group trainings to all Hope Line Communicators and Encouragers. The specialized training was developed for NCBAM by Whitney Brooks, NBC-HWC, Certified Integrative Health Coach through Duke Integrative Medicine. The training features techniques for practicing mindful awareness and other-focused listening, the importance of using reflections in conversation, the role of inquiry and its role in active listening, and how to maintain a present and future focus. The training takes approximately two hours.
